The legacy, the house. Left to her by blood, in blood. A dwelling of mysterious darkness, loss and despair etched deeply into each timber, the very foundation of the place. All about the lands the stories are told of the house beyond the wood. But for all the morbid fascination with the tales, none dare venture close, not even she. She dare not step foot on the threshold, for fear it the place would take hold of her, draw her into its design. A heritage she could not accept, would not embrace, left to sit in hopes of being forgotten. Would that it could just fade away like a passing dream, never to capture her in the grip of evil that surely held it.
This one rather let me know as I was working on it that it was tightly tied to an older piece of mine, The house beyond the wood.
